Chip set names that cannot be traced to a venue: Camino, Derby, Huntington Park, Casa Mango and others

Collector wanted and trade threads are full of set names that look like casino names but cannot be matched to a documented venue. Researching them can waste a lot of time, and buying on the assumption that they are real house chips can be a mistake. This article lists the names that came up and records, for each, only what the source threads say, with a plain note of what is unknown. It does not guess.

Camino Casino

A Camino Casino $20 chip with shaped inlays appears on a trade wish list.1 A separate seller's post lists a Camino set in denominations of $0.25, $1, $5, $20, $100, $500 and $1,000 and says the $1, $100, $500 and $1,000 pieces use other chips as base chips with replaced inlays, and that original Camino $100s, $500s and $1,000s do not appear to exist.2 That points to a partly assembled collector set rather than a complete casino issue. The posts do not say where or whether a casino called Camino operated. Treat Camino as unresolved.

Derby Gran Casino

A collector with a "full sample set" was looking for a single $1,000 chip in July to September 2024. The thread describes it as a Paulson 43 mm chip with an IHC inlay.3 The thread does not give the casino's location. Treat the venue and its location as unknown, and do not assume it matches any casino of a similar name.

Huntington Park

A collector wanted additional hot stamp $100 chips to finish a rack, needing 17 more.4 A separate sale thread describes a Huntington Park cash set of 885 Paulson chips (denominations from $0.25 to $20) on the H&C mould, with "awesome colours" and heavy use on most chips.5 Neither thread says whether Huntington Park was a casino or cardroom, or where it was. Treat the venue as unresolved.

Private Cardroom Paulson chips

Collectors wanted a black $100 with orange spots, blue and pink $1 chips, red $5s and green $25s from a set called "Private Cardroom" (PCR).67 The threads mention a "fuchsia" $500 as well, but do not say what the Private Cardroom was, who ordered the chips, or when. Treat the set as unresolved beyond its colours and denominations.

BCC sets: Capital Room, GCOP and the riverboat web mould

A trader offering assembled sets wanted "Capital Room BCC" cash chips, "GCOP BCC" tournament chips and "riverboat web mold BCC" chips.8 The forum glossary expands BCC as Blue Chip Company, a clay chip maker no longer in business.9 The pages give no information on what Capital Room or GCOP are, or when the chips were made.

Casa Mango

The same trader asked for a "Casa Mango tournament relabel set" that was previously owned by another member.8 "Relabel" means a set whose denominations were changed by applying new labels, so a Casa Mango relabel set is a collector customisation, not a casino issue. Nothing on the page says what Casa Mango is.

CDI '98 sets

The trader offering CDI '98 sets describes them as custom-assembled leaded Top Hat and Cane chips from 1998, with inlay replacements and relabelling, in two playable sets: a 740-chip cash set (canary yellow solids, 50 cent, $1, $5 and $20) and an 800-chip tournament set, which is a two-table, 16-player set based on a T25 starting chip.8 The forum glossary gives CDI as an abbreviation for a casino, but that expansion is not corroborated elsewhere and the trade thread does not use it, so the identity of CDI is not established.

Chicken $100

A wanted thread uses "Chicken $100" as a collector nickname for a hundred-denomination chip that posters say was made to stand alongside "SB $5" chips.10 The thread suggests a custom or fantasy chip, not a casino issue, and the poster intends to use it in a relabel project. The thread names no venue or maker. Treat it as an unidentified collector chip.

How to approach any of these

  • Ask the seller what the chip actually is, not just its nickname.
  • Check the ChipGuide, the Museum of Gaming History database, for a venue entry with an address, opening and closing dates and chip details.11
  • Assume relabelled and assembled sets are customisations unless a seller documents otherwise.
  • Do not fill in missing identity with guesses. If a name cannot be found in a catalogue, say so in your listing and your collection notes.

A research worksheet for unresolved chip-set names

Keep the name printed on the chip separate from the name used by a seller. An abbreviation such as PCR or CDI is useful in a forum search, but a full photograph may reveal wording that points to a different reference. A custom set can also combine genuine base chips with replacement artwork, so record both identities when they are known.

Record field Example of useful wording
Printed name Copy the lettering exactly from the chip
Seller's nickname 'Chicken $100', with the listing URL
Base-chip attribution Claimed maker and mold; confirmation still pending
Alterations Replacement inlay, over-label or removed hot stamp, if disclosed
Venue evidence A named city and a matching catalog entry, or unresolved

Search the long name and the denomination together: Derby Gran Casino 1000, Huntington Park hot stamp 100, Private Cardroom Paulson 100 or Camino Casino 20 shaped inlay. Follow with the acronym only after identifying a matching image. This reduces collisions with real towns, unrelated businesses and generic private poker rooms.

Does no catalog match prove that a chip is a fantasy issue?

No. It means the identity has not been established with the material checked. Keep that limitation in your notes. An undocumented house chip, a custom collector release and an altered original require different evidence; a convincing casino-style name does not decide between them.
