Porsche 911 S/T (2024): specs and how limited-edition allocation works

The 2024 Porsche 911 S/T was announced as a limited anniversary model, and demand far exceeded supply. If you are trying to get one, there are two separate questions: what exactly is it, and how does a buyer get an allocation?

What it is

Porsche limited production to 1,963 units to mark the 911's 60th anniversary (12 September 2023), a nod to the car's 1963 debut year.1 The S/T was positioned as a purist, manual-only 992 built around the GT3 RS's high-revving engine.

911 S/T (992)
Engine 4.0 L naturally aspirated flat-six from the GT3 RS family
Power / torque 525 PS (518 hp) / 465 N·m; Porsche describes the engine as capable of 9,000 rpm
Transmission 6-speed manual only, with shorter ratios than the 911 GT3
Clutch New lightweight clutch with single-mass flywheel, cutting rotating mass by 10.5 kg
Weight 1,380 kg DIN kerb weight, which Porsche says is 40 kg less than a manual 911 GT3 Touring
Chassis Double-wishbone front axle, multi-link rear axle, no rear-axle steering
Claimed performance 0-100 km/h in 3.7 s, about 300 km/h
Launch price (US) $291,650 including a $1,650 destination fee

Sources: Porsche's press kit and world-premiere release, Wikipedia (power and torque), and Yahoo Autos (US price).1234 Wikipedia lists a weight of 1,404 kg, which does not match Porsche's own DIN figure.

Auto123 reported that cars were due to reach dealerships from the second quarter of 2024.5

Standard equipment that matters

Porsche's release lists the following as standard, and they separate the S/T from a GT3 Touring:2

  • Carbon-fibre body parts: bonnet, roof, front wings and doors, plus the roll cage, rear anti-roll bar and shear panel, all in carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic.
  • Wheels and brakes: 20-inch front and 21-inch rear lightweight centre-lock magnesium wheels (255/35 ZR 20 and 315/30 ZR 21 tyres) and ceramic composite brakes (PCCB).
  • Interior: carbon full bucket seats, with four-way Sports Seat Plus available at no extra cost; a lithium-ion starter battery; lightweight glass; reduced insulation; classic green instrument and Sport Chrono clock finish.

These items are all standard, so a car listed as "S/T" that lacks them, or that has been converted, should be questioned.

Heritage Design Package

The Heritage Design Package is the only major factory option the press materials describe. It includes Shore Blue metallic paint (offered only with the package), Ceramica wheel colour (Brilliant Silver is an alternative), optional start-number decals from 0 to 99 on the doors, the 1963 Porsche crest on the bonnet and wheel centre caps, Classic Cognac and black two-tone semi-aniline leather, pinstripe cloth seat centres, a Dinamica roof lining, "Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur" embossed on the centre console and illuminated door sills.62 The decals are optional and removable, so a car without them can still have the package; confirm from the car's documents.

How do you get one?

Porsche sells limited editions through its authorised Porsche Centers, and the dealer decides how it handles requests. Practical steps people take:

  1. Ask more than one dealer how it allocates limited models, and what its history with you needs to look like.
  2. Build a relationship by buying and servicing a Porsche from the dealer you want an allocation from.
  3. Check the market-specific rules. In the US, Porsche's executive for the 911 and 718 lines, Frank Moser, said at Rennsport Reunion in October 2023 that buyers allocated an S/T must adhere to a one-year minimum retention period; Stuttcars reports that in practice US cars are initially leased for that year before ownership transfers. Moser said the aim was that cars reach enthusiasts who will drive them, and that interest far exceeded the US allocation.78 The rule was reported as applying to US buyers only. If you are looking at a used US car, ask whether the retention period has run its course and how the title was transferred.
  4. Consider the used market as an alternative; the launch price is only a reference, because secondary-market prices for cars like this can differ widely from the original price.

Nobody outside Porsche can tell you who will get an allocation or what a car costs today; check current dealer and marketplace listings.

Judging a used S/T

  • Limited-edition number. Each car carries its individual limited-edition number on a badge on the passenger side of the dashboard. Porsche has acknowledged that two cars once received the same number (1724) through an error in ordering the customised badge, so a number alone is not a guarantee; compare it against the paperwork and the car's VIN.9
  • Documents. Verify the car's identity and options from a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity or, in the US, the Porsche Production Specifications, which lists original production-card specification and options.10
  • Recalls. NHTSA's list of 2024 Porsche models with recall records includes the 911 S/T, so run the car's VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see what campaigns apply and whether they were completed.11 Ask the selling dealer to confirm completion in writing.
  • Mileage and storage. These cars are bought as collectibles, and buyers value originality. Ask for service records from Porsche Centers or recognised specialists and look for evidence of accident repair on the carbon panels.
  • Brakes, wheels and tyres. Ceramic brakes and magnesium wheels are expensive to replace; any work on them is safety-critical and should be done by a qualified professional.

Allocation language to clarify before paying a deposit

An "expression of interest", a place on a dealer list and a confirmed vehicle order are different stages. Ask the seller or dealer to identify which one is being offered and provide the relevant written documents. An allocation story without a vehicle identity, order confirmation or clear transfer terms cannot establish what a buyer will receive.

For a deposit, clarify who holds it, what it reserves, the refund conditions and what happens if delivery or specification changes. For an already-delivered US car, ask for the actual title and any remaining finance or lease obligations; historical reporting about the original retention arrangement should not be treated as a description of the present contract.

How should a used S/T be documented?

Request the VIN, original order or window sticker, limited-edition plaque photograph, delivery documents, service record and the current ownership paperwork. Match the Heritage Design equipment to the build record, remembering that removable graphics may have changed since delivery. Ask whether the Porsche Design watch or other accessories are included if they appear in the listing photographs.

A road-use inspection should address the car's current condition, including carbon bodywork, magnesium wheels and ceramic brakes, rather than stop at verifying rarity. Set separate requirements for collection originality and practical use: bucket-seat preference, storage arrangements and intended mileage can matter more than finding a particular plaque number.
